Report
Dr. Naoki Yoshie, Senior Assistant Professor at the Division of Coastal Oceanography, Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES), Ehime University, Japan received the MONITOR Committee Best Presentation Award at the PICES (North Pacific Marine Science Organization) 2011 annual meeting, which was held on Khabarovsk, Russia from 12 to 21 October 2011. MONITOR Committee Best Presentation Award has been given for excellent studies in the field of observatory oceanography. Dr. Yoshie was given the prize for his research on “Phytoplankton and Nutrient Dynamics in the Western Seto Inland Sea, Japan” based on observation and development of a modified NEMURO model. He has conducted outstanding research on the marine ecosystem dynamics and biogeochemical cycles in the Seto Inland Sea by combining both field observations and numerical models for predicting the coastal ecosystem responses to environmental changes, the importance of which has been receiving international recognition in recent years.
