Dr. Ana Catarina Almeida Sousa received "Best Oral Presentation Award" in the SEASINK2008

Miss Ana Catarina Almeida Sousa is a researcher at CESAM (Center for Environmental and Marine Studies) and Department of Biology, University of Aveiro, Portugal. Under the supervision of Professor Shinsuke Tanabe, she visits regularly the Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES) in Ehime University where she conducts organotin analysis in samples collected from Portugal, a nuclear component of her work towards the awarding of a Ph.D. degree. Her thesis focuses on the determination of environmental levels of organotins along the Portuguese coast and the establishment of associated effects on mollusk’s sterilization phenomena. In this context, she presented a communication entitled “Contribution of organic tin compounds to total tin levels in mussels collected along the Portuguese Coast” at the International Conference SEASINK2008, held in Porto, Portugal during June 2008. The communication won the award for “Best Oral Presentation”. Items under evaluation (performed by the Congress Scientific Committee) consisted: consistency of the objectives of the study; quality of the description of the materials and methods section; global results and conclusions; scientific relevance and the presentation performance. This award is one of the many successful outcomes of the partnership established between CESAM in Aveiro University and CMES in Ehime University.
